Job Description:

This is a full time, direct hire opportunity.

PURPOSE/SCOPE: Deliver new designs, product line extensions and revisions to existing products. Revise standard products to advance processes, to lower cost, to improve manufacturability, to ease assembly, and to increase reliability. Provide support to all internal and external customers, as required.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIP: The position reports to the Project Engineer. The position works cooperatively with employees in all areas of the company to achieve customer satisfaction while meeting corporate objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

1. Support New Product Development thru the Feasibility, Design & Implementation Phases

2. Design, Develop and Implement New Products employing Lean New Product Development Techniques

3. Add new Options to Existing Products

4. Revise Existing Products to Improve Performance, Lower Cost, Increase Reliability, Enhance Manufacturability and/or Ease Assembly

5. Solve Problems through proven analytical methods including Six Sigma & Lean Methods

6. Interact with the Model Shop to:

a. Create Proof of Concept Prototypes

b. Build Samples for Performance and Life Tests

c. Test Equipment or Systems to Validate Product Quality

d. Create data collection systems for various forms of tests

7. Interact with (Coordinate, Advise & Seek Council) with CAE to improve design work in both areas as well as creating New Products that are more readily supported in CAE

8. Assist our external Customers and Internal Customers (Manufacturing and Marketing, Service Center) as required

9. Carry out Technical Studies as required, including Analysis of Competitors Offerings, Assessment of New Materials or Processes, as well as Vendor Reviews and/or Product Feasibility Studies

10. Employ Analytical methods including Statistical Analysis, Tolerance Studies, Stress Analysis, FEA, CFD/Fluid Analysis & DOE

11. Utilize design analysis & data acquisition tools including CAD, 3D Solid Modeling, LabView. Design For Manufacturability, Design For Assembly, Lean Manufacturing etc.

12. Develop expertise in Mechatronics including Pneumatic, Hydraulic, and Electromagnetic Motion Control

13. Participate in project planning by building timelines with other team members using Microsoft Project to track progress, and optimize resources

14. Work with Purchasing and Quality in find/evaluate new suppliers/vendors

15. Research technologies new & old for relevance to exploit potential benefits

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Physics, Electrical, Industrial, Manufacturing or Mechanical, Engineering

• Working knowledge of 3D CAD

• FPS Certification (within the first year of employment)

• 3 years of related work experience in one of the following:

o In the Fluid Power industry

o Designing equipment that uses pneumatic actuators

o New Product Development

o Applied Research & Development

• Understanding of the risks associated with changes to standard product: including changes driven from cost reductions, design improvements, etc.

• Effective communication skills (written, oral and listening). Ability to manage communications with internal and external customers in a professional manner.

• Ability to apply principles of logical and scientific thinking to define complex problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions/recommendations. Can Interpret an extensive variety of complex technical instructions in mathematical or illustrative form and work with information that is both abstract and variable.

Preferences:

• Master’s degree in Physics, Engineering or Business Administration

• 5 years of related work experience in one of the following:

o In the Fluid Power industry

o Designing equipment that uses pneumatic actuators

o New Product Development

o Applied Research & Development

• Experience with the following

o Continuous Improvement

o Lean Initiatives

o Six Sigma
