Introducing myself..

Saturday, October 11th, 2008

Being in the IT industry, I know that gut wrenching feeling of being laid off. To top that, I know what it’s like to walk the path of shame after being let go in your job. That feeling where everyone knows that you just didn’t cut it during this round of layoffs. I know that feeling while driving home where all of your bills and debt start racing through your mind realizing that your income, the thing that keeps you afloat, is no longer accessible.

My name is Jennifer, but most people around the Internet call me Lysis. I have been in the IT industry for 10 years. In those 10 years, I have been laid off 3 times due to the roller coaster in IT job security. One minute they love your work, the next there is no budgeted assets for your position. I survived the dot com era through severance and credit cards.

Through my years though, I have always been a survivor. You may be thinking that my chosen pen name is a bit odd. Well, it is. I am now trying to move into a new career through schooling. Lysis is a biology term, and that’s my goal for the future – to move out of IT and into the healthcare industry where it is more secure.

I am excited to write for MyJobSeeker blog to express many of the ups and downs that most people go through during their careers. Let’s face it, we usually start our careers in our 20’s and it is a part of us until we are able to retire. Like an old shirt, the excitement we have when we get our first job within our career path fades over time and we are ready for a new one.

Through this blog, I hope to bring some kind of motivation to all the others out there who face the trials and tribulations during this down slide in the economy. I will be writing about my own struggles, and I hope to hear from everyone in the comments.
